Halloween is a BOO-tiful Time in NOLA 👻

We’ve been only lucky enough to celebrate my favorite holiday in New Orleans once, but it is most definitely on our short list to go back. One of our dreams is in fact to walk/ride in the Krewe of Boo Halloween parade one day! It’s truly amazing and I say that having been to Mardi Gras parades.

The Monster Mash Post Parade party was a blast. (Pro Tip: The VIP balcony tickets are so worth it.)

PS – are you a fan of Reacher on Amazon Prime? HIGHLY recommend-both B and I love it. Silly at times, but you cannot not love Reacher. Definitely different from the 2016 Jack Reacher movie w/ Tom Cruise but the climactic finale of the movie featured a chase scene through the Krewe of Boo parade! You can watch the clip on the KoB website.

When we happened to be in town in that Oct in 2019 for the second of my surgeries at the amazing CRBS, we also took a walk around looking for some scares that didn’t involve said surgery! Weirdly, we didn’t go all out and document our strolls, nor the parade, so we only grabbed a few shots, but hopefully they’re just intriguing enough to whet your appetite for blood…er, I mean, to celebrate the scary season in one of the spookiest cities in the country.

However, we did make it to the Skeleton House and the Ghost Manor and they are must not miss stops!

(Pro Tip-go on a weeknight to both, and well before Halloween if you can.)

Also on our list on our next October visit:

The Mortuary Haunted House

New Orleans Nightmare

And I will NEED to visit their Shot in the Dark Secret Bar beforehand!

Brews & Boo’s

And for those with kiddos, some family friendly options:

Boo at the Zoo

Ghosts in the Oaks

Krewe of Boo Zombie Run and of course, the Parade itself.

And anytime of the year you can find a little spooky in town via Ghost Walking Tours…or St. Louis Cemetery No.1 (but only during the day, please unless you book one of the few night tours!)

And, from the Krewe of Boo website talking about why NOLA may be a bit obsessed with death:

Because in New Orleans, the dead never really leave. They linger in the music, the buildings, the cocktails, and the culture. They’re part of the story. And we’re not afraid to dance with them, drink with them, and honor them—loudly, proudly, and always in costume.

And lastly, as a little lagniappe for you—some previous Halloween costumes and Halloween cookies I made for Eat Love Cookies!

PS—for your Halloween party! Wish we could have one this year!

Cheers, our little monsters,
 Anne
